🔍 Behind The Lyrics & Meaning

Aawara means "wanderer" — someone without a fixed place, drifting. The song begins with confusion rather than heartbreak: "Muj ko kya hogaya hai / kya bataye sab lutt gaya hai / Jaane kyo sargardan mai." What has happened to me? How do I explain it — everything has been looted. I don't know why I've become restless. The album title Sargardan comes from this same word — wandering, unsettled.

The second verse is where the memory becomes unbearable: "Woh manzar teri yaado ka / Ankho mai chuba jaa raha." That scene of your memories keeps piercing my eyes. And then the plea: "Jeene na de mujeh saaiyan / Pavo tere mai parchayien." You don't let me live, my beloved — I am only a shadow at your feet.

The most striking verse uses classical Urdu imagery: "Mai gul-e-hijr hoon, sehra mera aashiyan / Mouj-e-dariya ke tarah mera koi na thikaan." I am the flower of separation; the desert is my home. Like a wave of the river, I have no fixed place. The lover is not just sad — he has become landscape, weather, movement without destination.

Then comes the accusation, quiet but clear: "Sath dene ka wada jo tha / kya nibaya, lo mai ban gaya." The promise you made to stay with me — did you keep it? Look — I became... And the sentence completes itself in the chorus: "Aawara, aawara, aawara mai ban gaya." A wanderer. Because of a promise unkept.

The final verse holds the song's hardest-earned wisdom: "Raste to alag hove, ham hai waahi tum chale gaye / Ranj-o-gham seh gaye, dunai hum ye keh gaye." The paths were different — I stayed there, you walked away. I bore the sorrow and the grief, and told the world this: "Mere tereh na karna ishq, ishq banadata hai." Don't love the way I did — love makes you this. Not a warning against love itself, but against loving like him.

💡 Gaanerbol Thoughts

Baabarr Mudacer has said this song took him outside his comfort zone, and it shows in the best way — the production is more textured than his usual work, and he handled nearly all of it himself. The guitars by him and Deepankar, along with Noddy Bhat's drums, give the track an indie-rock weight that suits the wandering theme. Shot in Bandipora, Kashmir, with art and costume design by Mudacer himself, the visuals match the song's sense of displacement.

Following his rendition of Unke Andaaz e Karam, this is his own writing — and it stands on its own.
